Doug Casebeer received an MFA in 1982 from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, Alfred, NY and directed the ceramics and sculpture programs at Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Colorado from 1985- 2019. In 2019 he received the Outstanding Leadership Award, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Snowmass Village, CO and the NCECA, Honorary Member, National Council Education of Ceramic Arts, Minneapolis, MN.
He has served as pottery/ceramics consultant to the following organizations- U.N.'s Industrial Development Organization; Arts in America, United States; Information Service, U.S.I.S., Washington, D.C.; National Advisory Board, Aspen Educational Research Foundation, Colorado; Potters to Nepal, Deohkuri, Dang District, Nepal; German Agency for Technical Cooperation/GTZ, Eschborn, Federal Republic of Germany; United Nations Industrial Development Organization/U.N.I.D.O., Vienna, Austria; and Jamaica School of Art, Institute of Jamaica, Kingston 5, Jamaica, W.I.
Casebeer’s ceramics are exhibited internationally.

Artist Statement

My work looks at issues that honor the spirit of human existence.  Within my artwork, I search for meaning in the relationships between the ideas of storage, shelter, and nourishment.My artwork is influenced by rural archetypal forms of the western landscape and from many years of experiencing different global cultures.I look for beauty, balance and grace in my artwork.  Through my artwork, I try to come to an understanding of myself and the world around me. - Doug Casebeer, 2019
